摘要
In 1992 Freedmann1 published the first case study on the intentional sectioning of the lower third molar as an alternative to surgical extraction. From that moment on, the international literature began to produce studies on this technique, currently called coronectomy, a technique which involves technical requirements to succeed. Leaving the apical portion of the root of a tooth aside has already been proposed in the past as a possible solution in the event of an intraoperative root fracture with very specific indications and contraindications which partially overlap with those defined for coronectomy (Table 1).
