Biopsychosocial Assessments for Pubertal Suppression to Treat Adolescent Gender Dysphoria

Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) adolescents are those whose gender identity is incongruent with societal expectations based on their sex assigned at birth.1 Some TGD adolescents may meet criteria for gender dysphoria, which requires at least six months of psychological distress related to gender incongruence.1 Such adolescents may seek pubertal suppression with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa).1 GnRHa's temporarily and reversibly suppress endogenous puberty, allowing adolescents to engage with care without puberty-related psychological distress.
