In LaMxTa1−xO1+(5−n)xN2−(5−n)x (Mn+ = Mg2+, Sc3+, and Zr4+) solid solutions, increasing the Mn+ (n = 2 and 3) content tuned the bandgap position, which facilitated water oxidation as well as overall water splitting.
