Milestones in cancer research

Cancer has been prevalent in humans for as long as one can remember. It hasn’t been neglected even for once and has been an active area of interest for scientific research. There have been various milestones that paved the way to the current advancement and the status of cancer research. In this article, one briefly learns about the crucial milestones researches in cancer over the years, starting at the genetic level; about aberrations and translocations in chromosomes, oncoviruses, and the first oncovirus ever discovered, metastasis in cancer, one of the many leading cancer types; and about lung cancer and its prominent cause. Further, the mechanism of the suppressed apoptosis in cancer cells, the active role of the tumor microenvironment, protein phosphorylation in cancer cells, and the roles of the immune system in cancer have been discussed.
