摘要
This is an easy-to-read minimalist approach to primary rhinoplasty by an innovative surgeon who has combined the best of both precision and preservation rhinoplasty techniques. The book Teorhinoplasty, written and edited by Teoman Dogan, details the nuances of a single surgeon’s approach to rhinoplasty. The topics covered are broad, ranging from anatomy and philosophy to surgical technique and instrumentation. Divided into eight chapters, the book spans 154 pages. The text is well worded, and the author masterfully provides insight into the pearls and pitfalls of every aspect of his surgical approach and technique. The text is well complemented by colorful illustrations, photographs, and diagrams. In fact, most of the surgical technique section is composed of images with associated text that is concise, descriptive, and informative. The author begins the book with an Introduction in which he explains the premise of the book: a blueprint to his rhinoplasty surgical technique. The second chapter describes the author’s “minimalist” rhinoplasty philosophy, which he distills into four principles. These principles are followed in the third chapter by a review of surgical principles, including incisions, breath physiology, tip surgery, and dorsum surgery. In the fourth chapter, the book shifts from conceptual to technical descriptions. Chapter 4 outlines important principles in surgical setup. Chapter 5 represents just over half of the length of the book and covers surgical technique. There are essentially 20 steps in the Teorhinoplasty procedure from markings to skin closure. The author reviews each step in detail with associated photographs and illustrations. The author should be complemented on crafting a text that makes the reader feel as though he or she has observed the procedure in person. The sixth chapter reviews complementary maneuvers in rhinoplasty, and the book concludes with multiple case examples (chapter 7) and the surgeon’s preferred instruments (chapter 8). Overall, the book is excellent, well written, and easy to read. For a single surgeon’s review of his approach to rhinoplasty, the book has no significant weaknesses. The only recommendation to better educate the reader would be to include associated videos with the text in the chapter on surgical technique. Otherwise, the author has successfully composed a book from which both novice and expert rhinoplasty surgeons can benefit.
