New microbial proteases in leather and detergent industries.

Proteolytic enzymes, proteases, are present in all forms of life from viruses to animals. Among them microbial proteases secure most important place due to their enormous industrial applications. In industrial applications, leather and detergent industries are of most prominent interest. These industries require use of toxic and polluting chemicals to degrade proteins. In leather industries chemicals are employed in dehairing, bating, soaking and degreasing to remove proteins associated with the collagen. In detergent industries, stains are removed by the use of surfactants. Proteases can be used to replace certain chemicals thus offers a green approach. This review entails importance of proteases in detergent and leather industries.
