Change Trajectories and Predictors of Work-Family Conflict for Dual-Earner Parents Raising Preteens

This study sought to analyze patterns of change and related factors in work-family conflict over time among dual-earner parents raising preteens. Although scholars have explored work-family conflict among dual-earner parents raising young children, no research has yet been done with dual-earner parents raising preteens. This study analyzed parents of 680 students in the upper elementary grades in Korea by conducting a latent class growth analysis and multinomial logistic regression with wave data from the Panel Study on Korean Children. Change trajectories were classified into increase after decrease, decrease after increase, and continuous decrease. Subjective happiness, stress, life satisfaction, average monthly household earnings, parenting styles, attitudes, and education expenses influenced the probability of belonging to each class. The abovementioned factors should be monitored in considering work-family conflict among dual-earner parents.
