Migrating Asia: labor mobility in an interdependent and connected world

Chapter 6 (Migrating Asia) is devoted to international migration in Asia. People mobility in Asia is increasing as interdependency between countries is deepening and common challenges arising. As a diverse region, Asia comprises both migrant-sending and receiving countries. The issue of migration has become one of the most important policy concerns, and thus a good understanding of its realities and challenges is crucial. This chapter introduces readers to the framework through which the complex issue of international migration can be understood, primarily by looking at both pull and push factors, and then goes on to illustrate the reality and challenges of migration, particularly labor migration as it unfolds in Asia.
