摘要
Water pollution is increasingly becoming a challenge due to many anthropogenic pollutants. One of the particular concerns is emerging contaminants—substances released into the environment for which no regulations are currently established. They are mainly organic compounds such as organic dyes, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), pesticides, plasticizers, wood preservatives, laundry detergents, disinfectants, and other organic compounds in water generated mainly by human activities. Many attempts have been made to deal with emerging water contaminants released into the environment, and metal−organic frameworks (MOFs) are one of the great solutions for this issue. MOFs material has a crystalline structure, large specific surface area, flexible structural framework, resizable pore size and pore shape, and various chemical functional groups inside the pore. With these unique properties, MOFs represent an advanced group of materials that have attracted researchers' attention over the last few decades for application in environmental remediation. In this chapter, the application of MOFs to emerging water contaminants is highlighted, and the challenges and the perspective on using MOFs for the removal of emerging water contaminants is discussed in detail.
