As thermosetting polyurethane (PU) is a two-part polymer resin, properties of PU can be easily tailored for a wide range of applications through manipulation of the structure of each part. In recent years, the drive for obtaining chemicals and materials from renewable resources has also prompted research of new applications for rosin. This chapter presents a general overview of the properties and novel applications of rosin-based PU materials. The composition of rosin-based rigid polyurethane foams (RPUFs) has great influence on its thermal and mechanical performances. Polyurethane elastomers (PUEs) have excellent resistances to oil, wear, tear, and chemical corrosion but have low heat resistance due to high content of urethane groups. The also chapter talks about terpene-based waterborne polyurethanes and rosin-based shape memory polyurethanes. To improve the toughness, rosin-derived polyols can be used together with a flexible polyol to regulate the overall properties of the polyurethanes.
