CdS, as a typical semiconductor, has attracted much more attention because of its many potential applications. Its nanoparticles and nanorods were prepared successfully with a solvo-hydrothermal method combined with ultrasonic treatment, using CdCl2 and thioacetamide (TAA) as starting materials, and water and N-heptane as solvents; as-synthesized nanocrystallites CdS were characterized by X-ray diffraction, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy spectrometry, and luminescence spectrometry. The results show that the product has evenly distributed size, good dispersion, and fluorescence. The crystal structure and morphology of the as-prepared nanocrystallites CdS are largely influenced by heating time and treatment temperature.
