A STUDY OF INFERTILITY IN CATTLE IN ALABAMA；1959年，byKIESEL, GK (KIESEL, GK) ; DACRES, WG (DACRES, WG) abstract：In 1359 attempts, bacteria were isolated from the genital organs of cows on 383 (28.1%) occassions. Breeding efficiency was not affected when a Streptococcus pyogenes and a coagulase-positive Staphylococcus aureus isolated from "repeat breeder" cows, and a Diplococcus organism from a cow with chronic metritis, were used to inoculate the cervices or the uteri of experimental heifers. A pleuropneumonia-like organism isolated from an infertile cow was not pathogenic to 2 young calves when inoculated intravenously. Routine intrauterine infusions of antibiotics did not affect the breeding efficiency of cattle. Nonspecific bacterial infections did not appear to be the major cause of infertility in the cattle studied. Many of the bacteria isolated were considered to be opportunists.
