2024 ACC/AHA guideline on perioperative cardiovascular management before noncardiac surgery: What’s new?

In September 2024, the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association updated their 2014 guidelines on perioperative cardiovascular evaluation and management of patients undergoing noncardiac surgery. This comprehensive document reinforces many previous recommendations and provides new evidence and expert opinion that is useful to the perioperative team, including information on risk assessment of ischemic heart disease and associated medical conditions, perioperative medications, cardiac devices, anesthesia, and monitoring.
