摘要
ABSTRACT Wireless capsule endoscopy (CE) for the diagnosis of small‐bowel disease has been in clinical use for more than a decade, and is no longer an emerging technology, but rather one that has reached fruition. This noninvasive technology has been readily embraced by both physicians and patients. Used in the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease, for locating sources of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, and for assessing small‐bowel polyp burden in polyposis syndromes as well as for less common indications, CE has transformed the diagnostic algorithms of small‐bowel investigations. Although already in widespread use, the technology incorporated into the various CE platforms continues to improve and expand. Here, we briefly review the indications, limitations, and advances in video capsule technology, with an emphasis on its use in pediatrics.
