W-type BaZn2Fe16O27ferrite was synthesized by sol-gel method. Samples were characterized by XRD,SEM and network analyzer to investigate the influence of adding PVP on electromagnetic properties and microwave absorbing mechanism. The results showed that the phase composition was not changed,while the thickness of the flaky particles was increased from 1 to 5 μm after adding PVP to prepare the ferrite. For the sample prepared with adding 2% PVP,the value of relative input impedance in the frequency range of 3. 5-6. 2 GHz and 10-18 GHz was more closer to 1,and the magnetic loss was enhanced in the frequency range of 10-17 GHz. Then,the microwave absorbing properties was improved. The peak value of reflection loss was increased from- 15. 7 dB to- 19 dB.
