In this work, we present the design of a WGM ring resonator that utilizes a target particle recipient layer deposited in the inner part of the bus to detect and quantify the presence of hemoglobin (HB) molecules in blood samples. Numerical investigations are carried out systematically to identify the resonator's spectral response and thenceforth measure the resonance wavelength shift according to the change in refractive index (RI) of the HB samples. The optical and structural parameters of the proposed ring resonator-based biosensor are thoroughly studied and correspondingly optimized to make the biosensor suitable for effectively detecting HB in blood samples. Detailed investigation reveals that the ring resonator with optimized design parameters and simplified structural architecture would achieve higher sensitivity in detecting HB in blood. The resulting HB level volume changes 6.1025 g/l for every 0.001 RI change. The optimized ring resonator-based biosensor shows an excellent sensitivity of 361.3 nm/RIU with a higher quality factor (Q) of 1143.
