摘要
China-Myanmar relations are regarded as Pauk-Phaw, which means fraternal in the Myanmar language. But because of Chinese national interests, the Pauk-Phaw relations have been tested for the increased Chinese soft-interventions in Myanmar. China launched cross-border missions in tackling drug trafficking and gambling in Myanmar since the early 2000s. During the Saffron Revolution in 2007, Beijing prevented international intervention in Myanmar by pressing the military junta to soften its stance towards the visit of the United Nations special envoy. Beijing has also continuous involved in Myanmar’s national reconciliation since 2007, Chinese special envoy met and lobbied the rebel groups to attend the Panglong Conference. In addition, China has also mediated in Myanmar’s ethnic cleansing of its Rohingya people since 2017. Beijing concluded that the problem is about poverty rather than ethnic disputes, and then China has promised on economic projects for solving the crisis.
