Acute respiratory distress syndrome update.

Respiratory failure and eventual ventilator dependence are hallmarks of the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS carries a significant mortality in all patient populations and the treatment strategies are largely supportive in nature. Despite years of clinical experience, ARDS continues to pose a substantial threat and no definitive therapy has yet to be described. We will present an overview of management options.
