Musca domestica larvae were grown in organic substrates of three types. The larval density was shown to influence certain parameters characterizing the fly life cycle and the larval utilization of the substrate. The larval development led to a decrease of the substrate mass, humidity and the content of organic matter. Man's native excrements were found to be the best substrate for M. domestica larvae.
