Stratigraphic division and establishment of a formation for the Holocene stratotype section in the coastal plain of the Bohai Bay.

The stratigraphic division of the Holocene Xingtuo stratotype section is made and a formation is established on the basis of 1∶50000 regional geological mapping of the Huaidian Town Sheet (J50E005015) in recent years through geological survey, lithological description, sporopollen, mollusk and microfossil analyses, heavy mineral identification, 14C and OSL dating, paleomagnetic survey and chemical and grain size analyses. The lithostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, climato-stratigraphy, biostratigraphy, chronostratigraphy, event stratigraphy, chemico-stratigraphy and mineral stratigraphy and other multiple stratigraphic division and correlation are made in the paleoclimatic, paleostructural and paleogeographic contexts. The tripartite subdivisions of the formation establishment are pronounced. The stratigraphic division and formation establishment meet with the related basic requirements stipulated in the Stratigraphic Guide of China.
