Fourteen compounds were isolated from the 75% acetone-water extract of the stems of Croton caudatus var. tomentosus. Their structures were identified as zheberiesinol( 1),pinoresinol( 2),medioresinol( 3),syringaresinol( 4), ficusesquilignan A( 5),buddlenol D( 6),4-hydroxy-4,7-dimethyl-1-tetralone( 7),( 3S,5R,6S,7E)-3,5,6-trihydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one( 8),vanillin( 9),isovanillin( 10),3,4-dihydroxyphenylethanol( 11),p-hydroxyphenethyl alcohol( 12),p-hydroxybenzaldehyde( 13),and 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzaldehyde( 14),respectively,on the basis of phytochemical and spectroscopic evidences. Compounds 5-8 and 10-14 were isolated from the genus Croton for the first time.
