The chapter titled “Pyridine-based probes and chemosensors” includes five main sections. The first section deals with the introduction to colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensors. In the second section, various pyridine-based colorimetric chemosensors for sensing metal ions (cations and anions) and neutral molecules have been discussed. The third section provides a comprehensive overview of pyridine-based fluorescent chemosensors. Under the fourth section, pyridine-based dual chemosensors (colorimetric as well as fluorescent) have been very well analyzed and described. In the fifth section, it is concluded that although a lot of work has been done in the field of development of chemosensors, there is still a need to achieve high specificity as the superiority of design and also new synthetic methods are required to produce highly selective and sensitive chemosensors.
