摘要
Korea Strait is a strategically important waterway connecting East China Sea and East Sea, showing one of the highest vessel traffic densities worldwide. Recent Arctic sea ice reduction by climate change increased potential use of Northern Sea Route, further emphasizing Korea Strait as key region in maritime logistics network. Large-scale AIS data analyzed vessels passing between Busan and Tsushima Island. Vessels classified by type, size identified seasonal peak-time, Gateline established to generate traffic distribution maps estimating route width. Route width quantified by traffic distributions along movement direction at 90%, 80%, 50% ranges. As a result, there were differences in traffic patterns and peak times depending on seasonal factors and vessel characteristics, and the route width for each section of the traffic distribution map also showed significant differences for the 90%, 80%, and 50% intervals. Based on the characteristics of peak times and the changing trends in route width, these findings can be utilized as fundamental data for maritime traffic management and strategic planning in preparation for the future activation of Northern Sea Route.
