Optic nerve complications after irradiation

Abstract Optic neuropathy is a dramatic complication of ocular irradiation, usually leading to complete visual loss. This presentation will review the putative mechanisms, including direct neurotoxicity and indirect optic nerve head ischemic damage secondary to radiation microangiopathy; the spectrum of clinical manifestations; and available therapies for optic nerve complications after ocular irradiation.
