Abstract Phosphonomethylation of the amino alcohols (I) with formaldehyde (II) and phosphorous acid (III) in the presence of hydrochloric acid produces mixtures of the title compounds (IV) and the bisphosphonic acids (V) from which only the compounds (IV) are isolated.
