摘要
This chapter provides an overview of gas diffusion layers (GDLs) used for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The materials, properties, modifications, and durability issues are addressed here. Both carbon and metal-based substrates are covered. GDL properties, including porosity, thickness, pore size, transport properties, thermal and electrical conductivity, and compressibility, are covered. Finally, GDL modifications are briefly discussed, including hydrophobization, the addition of microporous layer, and structural modifications of the substrate to improve the proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance.
