Few studies have focused on the reverse empowerment of complementary new ventures using information technologies to platform leadership. Additionally, existing research tends to treat complementors as homogeneous and passive receivers and thus cannot explain the heterogeneous contribution of complementors to platform leadership. Based on the bricolage and affordance theory, this study empirically investigates the mechanism of IT affordances on platform leadership from the perspective of complementary new ventures in China while considering the variability among different types of complementors. This study enriches the research on the impact of complementors on platform leadership while further expanding bricolage theory.
