Pathophysiology of Yin and Yang

This chapter describes the key concept of Yin and Yang as the main categorization of energies. Evaluating imbalances of Yin and Yang is the focus of this important discussion because the goal of acupuncture treatment, to maintain a healthy body and mind, depends on the balance of Yin and Yang. It describes Yin and Yang deficiencies, such as deficiencies of Heart Yin, Liver Yin, Lung Yin, Spleen Yang, Kidney Yin or Yang, and Stomach Yin. Yang excess is also described, such as Stomach food stagnation; dampness and heat in the Gallbladder, Liver, Bladder, and Intestines; phlegm and heat stagnation in the Heart and Gallbladder; excessive Liver wind or rising fire; and Yang in the Liver.
