Abstract A solar reactor consisting of a thermally insulated cavity receiver containing a porous monolithic ceria cylinder directly exposed to solar radiation is used to thermochemically dissociate CO 2 and H 2 O at elevated temperatures yielding CO and H 2 , respectively.
