Myostatin (MSTN),a negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass,is postulated to be involved in the pathogenesis of muscle fibrosis. But its role in the regulation of adipose tissue development is not fully understood yet.In this paper, the related mechanisms of MSTN in regulation of adipocyte growth and differentiation and lipid metabolism are reviewed and the recent progress in the research in this field is discussed.
