Water vapor condensation on hygroscopic aerosol particles plays an important role in cloud formation, climate change, secondary aerosol formation, and aerosol aging. Conventional understanding considers deliquescence of nanosized hygroscopic aerosol particles a nearly instantaneous solid to liquid phase transition.
