With the developing technology and increasing urbanization, many problems have started to arise in the use of energy resources and nature. Energy-saving measures are the primary goal of any prospective smart design, associated with environmental implications. Along with using energy-efficient bulbs, outdoor lighting must be handled properly so that the ever-increasing adverse impacts of light pollution and prevention related to it may be effectively achieved. Astronomers are anxious about light pollution because it interferes with nighttime celestial surveys, hampering important scientific research. However, it has recently been discovered that light pollution has not only an effect on astronomy but also hinders the environmental integrity of species and harms public health. Furthermore, because artificial lighting consumes a significant quantity of electrical energy, light pollution is considered one of the major risk factors for achieving economic sustainability. Numerous ways to reduce obtrusive light and unintended trespass into houses and natural environments, such as shielding luminaires, are relatively easy solutions that primarily need awareness. When artificial light is not required, it should be turned off. Smart, adaptable lighting solutions (such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs)) could assist in precisely reducing the impact of light pollution. This chapter focuses on how technology can be used to reduce the impact of light pollution on both humans and nature. It also includes environmental protection guidelines and scientific techniques to reduce light pollution, as well as a discussion of the urgent need for preventive and further study.
