Objective To investigate ultrastructural changes of trabecular meshwork after polythyleneimic (PEI) perfusion in the rat eye at normal intraocular pressure Methods 12 rats were perfused through the anterior chamber with 0 05,0 5and 5% PEI at normal intraocular pressure Morphology of trabecular meshwork was observed using a conventional electron microscopy Results In the trabecular meshwork with 0 05% PEI perfusion, some PEI particles were observed only at the cellular membranes of the endothelial cells of anterior chamber side In the trabecular meshwork with 0 5% PEI perfusion a dense accumulation of PEI particls was seen in the cellular membranes of the endothelial cells and other negatively charged surfaces (collagen, elastin) The PEI particles also accumulated undernerth the endothelial cells of the inner wall of Schlemm's canal In the trabecular meshwork with 5% PEI perfusion, some endothelial cells covering the beams were damaged Conclusion This study demonstrates dose-dependent of PEI across the trabecular meshwork in rat eyes
