AIM:To study the effects of GYB(Ext. of Semen cuscutae and fructus cnidii) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats METHOD:The osteoposis was induced by ovariectomy Having been fed with GYB,at the dose of 100,200,400 mg/kg/d,to the rats continuously for 3 months,the concentration of calcium(s Ca),tartrate resistant acid phosphatase in serum(s TRAP) and alkaline phosphatease in bone(b AKP) were measured by colorimetric method The concentration of osteocalcin in serum(s BGP) was measured by competitive radio immunologic method Bone mineral density(BMD) of femur and lumbar of rats was determined by Dual Energy X ray Absorbtiometry(DEXA) Biomechanical characteristics of femur were measured by three point bending test Histomorphometry of bone trabecula was analysed by scanning electron microscope RESULT:The BMD of femur of rats and uterus weight were increased The level of s TRAP was decreased The resistance of bending and compression of fumer of rats was enhanced The form of bone trabecula was improved and MTT and trabeculae square percentage (TS%) were increased obviously too CONCLUSION:GYB had antiosteoporotic effects on ovariectomized rats by inhibiting the bone tureover
