SOLID SOLUTIONS IN CALCIUM ORTHOSILICATE-NEODYMIUM ORTHOSILICATE SYSTEMS

Crystal optical and x ray studies of calcium orthosilicate reactions with neodymium orthosilicate revealed a homogeneous region. The maximum solid solution concentration was at 40 wt% neodymium orthosilicate. A stabilizing effect produced by neodymium orthosilicate on a high temperature dicalcium silicate and formation of complex macroscopically homogeneous Ca/sub 2/SiO/sub 4/ crystals in a microhete rogeneous diphase state were observed.
