Use of a fiberoptic accessory for retrieval of adult heartworms in a dog with postcaval syndrome.

Use of a spiral fiberoptic basket for the removal of adult heartworms from the vena cava and right atrium of a dog with postcaval syndrome is described. Complications reported with the use of alligator forceps were not encountered with the basket.
