Determination of Sesamin in Sesame Oil,and Sesamin Content in Oils of Sixteen Varieties of Chinese Sesame Seeds.

A reagent prepared from 2 volumes of 78-79% H_2SO_4 solution and 1volume of 26-27% H_2O_2 solution is capable of giving with sesamin a greencoloration finally turning yellow.The yellow color may be utilized for thequantitative determination of sesamin,and satisfactory results can be obtained.This method has been employed to determine the sesamin content in oils of 16varieties of Chinese sesamin seeds,which ranges from 0.92% up to 1.80%.Oilscontaining high quantities of sesamin should have promising potential uses asasynergist in combination with pyrethrin oil sprays.
