I read with great interest the article by Sen et al., showing that 1 of the underlying molecular mechanisms of the kidney-protective effect of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in patients with type 2 diabetes is the increment in epidermal growth factor (EGF) expression in the kidney.1
