Packaging is now fully part of the product but, whereas it should always protect and guarantee the contents’ quality, is also expected to fulfil a wide range of other requirements (printability, conception, safety, etc.). For aluminium foil, employed in conjunction with other materials, the development of optimum resistance is the driving force for research on metallurgy and mechanical properties. In this document the focus is put on the role of grain size on mechanical properties and on the metallurgical routes to control recrystallization kinetics
