Abstract The application of acetalization of aldehydes and ketones by alkoxysilanes in the presence of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate catalyst to lactones and di-O-trimethylsilyl-α-diols gave readily the corresponding spiro cyclic ortho esters.
