Most common paper wet-strength agents are urea-formaldehyde (UF) , melamine formaldehyde (MF) , and polyaminoamide-epichlorohydrin (PAE) resins. But they all can cause environmental issues. Therefore, environment-friendly wet-strength additives have been studied widely at home and abroad, which are introduced in this article. The most development works of wet-strength improving agents for paper domestically are focused on the improvement of traditional resins used as wet-strength improvers, but series of novel types of strengthening agents are developed abroad. Anyway, environment-friendly wet-strength additives with low cost and high performance will still be the important research direction.
