Objective To study the efficacy of edaravone in the treatment of acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in young and middle-aged patients. Methods One hundred and fifty-six patients with acute ICH were assigned to a control group that received conventional treatment and an edaravone treatment group that received injections of edaravone for 14 days (30 mg,Bid) along with conventional treatment (n=78 each). The neurological functional deficits scores and the daily activity abilities were evaluated by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and the Barthel Index (BI),respectively before treatment and 14 days after treatment. Results The neurological functional deficits and daily activity abilities were improved more significantly in the edaravone treatment group than in the control group. The effective rate in the edaravone treatment group (84.6%) was significantly higher than that in the control group (62.9%) (P0.05).Conclusions Edaravone can significantly improve the neurological functional defects and daily activity abilities in young and middle-aged patients with acute ICH.
