Abstract Carbon quantum dots are employed in foam for enhanced oil recovery. This study focuses on the impact of carbon quantum dots on the stability of oil displacement foam. Molecular dynamics simulations are conducted to investigate commonly used models of carbon quantum dots and surfactant foams in oil displacement. The research delves into the interfacial properties of the foam film, the flow characteristics of water molecules, and the interaction between carbon quantum dots and surfactants. Insights gained from these three aspects reveal the influence of carbon quantum dots on surfactant foam films. This work provides theoretical guidance for the utilization of carbon nanomaterials in foam-assisted oil recovery.
