摘要
The goal of this symposium is to provide a more systematic understanding of how being at the intersection of different institutional systems influences organizational behavior. Each paper examines important effects of institutional complexity at a different organizational life stage and as a result of changing external conditions. Three of the papers provide intra- organizational investigations to identify how institutional complexity affects organizations at different life stages. They examine, a) the effects of institutional imprinting of multiple logics at organizational founding; b) how the social legitimacy of different logics shift over time, which allows for the balance between logics inside an organization to evolve; and c) how a successful blended hybrid organization might eventually unfold into failure. The final paper, d) looks across organizations, and in particular how shifts in the broader external environment affect the influence of different types of institutional pressures. Thus, as a set, these papers cover effects of institutional complexity at a number of key organizational stages, from founding imprints, to evolution as society changes, to organizational failure; and finally as a response to shifting field conditions.
