Purpose This paper provides a new method for fast calculating the recess pressure for hydrostatic bearing compensated by orifice restrictor. Design/methodology/approach Three methods (new method, old method and finite difference method) are used to calculate recess pressure for hydrostatic bearing at different eccentricity ratios and radial clearances, and the results with the three methods are compared. Findings From the results, the conclusion is that new method has simple calculation process and quick calculation speed. Originality/value The new method can be used to calculate the recess pressure of hydrostatic bearing with high precision and simple computing process.
