Spacecraft Attitude Determination and Control

Abstract By spacecraft attitude, we mean how a spacecraft is oriented in space. Every spacecraft carries a complement of instruments, usually called a payload, that must be directed in some way, and the performance of this payload depends in a fundamental way on the attitude. Thus, the ability to know the spacecraft attitude (attitude determination) and the ability to command a desired attitude (attitude control) are indispensable to the performance of the spacecraft.
