Preparative Methods: prepared by Michaelis–Arbuzov reaction from ethyl diphenylphosphinite and 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl iodide at room temperature (eq 1),2 or by the reaction of chlorodiphenylphosphine with trifluoroacetic acid in water (eq 2).1, 3 This second method is recommended for the large-scale preparation of 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl diphenylphosphine oxide due to the low cost of the starting materials.
