In this speculative fiction piece, every person has a shadow that the state believes must be removed from their person in an attempt to rid the world of darkness and move towards only light. To still have a shadow and engage with one's shadow is to be perverse. There are resistances and protests against shadow removal but the overwhelming sense is that gradually the world is moving towards a shadow-less reality, for better or worse, provoking the compelling question-what is to be lost if there is only light, all the time?
