Abstract Konjac ( Amorphophallus konjac ) has been used due to its multiple therapeutic effects: having antiobesity, antidiabetic, and anticonstipation properties, being a remedy for antihypercholesterolemia, demonstrating lung anticancer properties, as well as being a prebiotic agent. Most of these activities have been validated in various animal models as well as in vitro assays. Clinical trials on human subjects also support its application as a treatment for diabetes and obesity. The plant is found to be rich in nutritious components and is commonly used in food and drink products because of its gelling properties. The available scientific data strongly support its large-scale production as a nonvitamin, nonmineral supplement.
