Peptide molecules possess the remarkable ability to self-assemble through intricate noncovalent interactions, leading to the formation of supramolecular polymers with precisely defined structures and tailored functionalities. Recent advancements have demonstrated that the incorporation of covalent bonding during peptide self-assembly significantly enhances both the structural stability and functional performance of these assemblies. This article provides a comprehensive review of the emerging field of covalent self-assembly of peptides, highlighting cutting-edge developments reported in recent years. We systematically examine the unique advantages and promising applications of these covalent-bonded peptide supramolecular materials across various disciplines. Furthermore, we critically analyze the current challenges and offer insightful perspectives on future research directions in this rapidly evolving field.
